If you're hosting an online event and selling tickets through Shopify, then we've got you covered. When you create an online event using the app, your customers will have access to a unique virtual event page that they can use to gain access to event information and livestream or video content.
You can even restrict access using a unique access code that is provided to each attendee, and/or set open and close dates for access to the video content (embedded or simple link).
How to get started
The first thing you need to do to create an online event is to hit the "Create Event" button on the event listing page. From here you can select "Online" in the Location section.
Once you have the event created, you can configure the Virtual Event Page under the Virtual Event Page tab of the event settings
Here you can configure the type of content, link to the content, embeddable content, and different access controls such as requiring an access code or open/close dates, as well as easy design settings such as colors and a logo. You can even fully customize the page under the Code section here.
Now when someone purchases a ticket for this event, they'll have access to the event page from their ticket by clicking on the Location link, and/or you can send them a link to the event page using our Attendee Messages feature from the attendee listing page.
Access controls
While the event page is unique, the URL is a unique URL that is secure through a unique and random string in the URL itself, you may want to add an extra layer of security by issuing each attendee an access code and restricting access to the actual event content until they enter this code.
This can be enabled on the Virtual Event Page tab under the Event Settings area. You can also select the option to provide this access code to each attendee in their ticket notification email or SMS. When this is enabled the attendee will receive their code in the ticket notification, using the default notification template it looks like:
You can also limit the amount of active sessions for your attendees which will keep access to your event limited to one connection per access code. When your event goes live you can see any active sessions for a particular attendee by accessing their attendee information and if for any reason you need to revoke access the option is available to you from that list as well (This could include if for any reason an attendee can not access their event after closing a window/changing devices)
Sending a reminder before your event
Whether you require an access code to access the content or not, you may still want to send a reminder to your guests as the event date approaches. You can use our Attendee Messages feature to do this, an example message could look like:
The event is coming up soon! You can access the livestream through
our <a href="{{ event.virtual_event_page_url }}">event page</a> using
your access code: {{ attendee.access_code }}
That's all you need to get started with online events. As always, please contact us if you have questions or need help getting set up.
